TN Studying Blue Carbon Potential of Eco-Systems To Offset Emissions

The Tamil Nadu government is exploring the potential of blue carbon credits to offset carbon emissions. Blue carbon credits are generated through the expansion of ecosystems like mangroves and coral reefs, which absorb carbon. The environment department is collecting data to assess the blue carbon potential of various ecosystems in the state.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board is developing a website for industries to register for the Green Rating Mechanism, a program that evaluates industries based on their energy use, renewable energy sources, and other factors.

The CII Tamil Nadu State Council chairman emphasizes India's commitment to carbon reduction and highlights the need for energy-efficient methodologies in industries. ProClime's CEO believes that carbon pricing will influence corporate actions and that circularity in the industrial landscape is crucial for addressing climate change.
