ProClime will lead the implementation of 300,000 hectares under Uttar Pradesh’s Sustainable Agriculture Land Management (SALM) carbon credit programme, reinforcing its position as the largest industry partner in India’s first state-backed carbon initiative for farmers.
This allocation represents the majority share of the programme’s total land area and marks one of the most significant deployments of agriculture-linked carbon projects globally.
The programme spans approximately 778,000 farmer holdings, of which nearly 67% are marginal farmers cultivating less than one hectare. It establishes a formal pathway for farmers, particularly smallholders, to participate in carbon markets through verified sustainable agriculture practices.
The initiative brings together a coordinated, state-backed framework integrating:
• Policy support from the Government of Uttar Pradesh
• Scientific and methodological oversight anchored by IIT Roorkee
• On-ground execution led by specialised carbon market participants, with ProClime as the largest partner
The 300,000-hectare mandate places ProClime at the centre of a large-scale effort to integrate agriculture into carbon market systems.
The programme is expected to:
• Enable adoption of Sustainable Agriculture Land Management (SALM) practices at scale
• Strengthen soil carbon, productivity, and climate resilience
• Create new income pathways for farmers through carbon markets
• Establish a replicable model for agriculture-linked carbon programmes
ProClime will anchor delivery across its allocated geography, including farmer onboarding and field-level execution, deployment of sustainable land management practices, development of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems and alignment with recognised carbon standards and methodologies.
The emphasis remains on ensuring that scale is supported by data integrity, traceability, and long-term credibility.
Vijayakumar Rangaraju, Chief Mission Officer, ProClime, said:
“For carbon markets to work, they have to work for farmers first. This initiative ensures that climate value is measurable, monetisable, and directly linked to livelihoods. At this scale, the focus is not just expansion, but on building a model that can be replicated and aligned with farmers, institutions, and markets over the long-term.”
Professor A S Maurya, IIT Roorkee, added:
“Our role is to ensure that the programme is grounded in robust scientific methodologies and credible MRV systems. This is critical to building long-term trust in agriculture-linked carbon credits.”
The programme is expected to move into its initial implementation phase in the near term, with baseline activities and field deployment scheduled to begin shortly.
Further details on carbon credit volumes, pricing structures, and registry alignment will be disclosed at the time of formal programme launch.
ProClime is a full-stack climate company working across carbon projects, carbon trade, and climate investments to deliver high-integrity, scalable climate solutions across India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
