ProClime, in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, today announced the official launch of the HIM Evergreen Integrated Climate-Smart Agriculture and Agroforestry Program, a landmark initiative designed to integrate trees into farming systems, strengthen climate resilience, and create long-term economic opportunities for farming communities through high-integrity carbon finance.
The go-live marks the next chapter in the partnership announced by ProClime and the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department in November 2025, moving the programme from planning and readiness into implementation.
Spanning 50,000 hectares of eligible agricultural landscapes across Himachal Pradesh, HIM Evergreen represents one of India's largest state-supported farmer carbon programmes and brings 13.5 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) Emissions Under Management.

The programme combines agroforestry with climate-smart agricultural practices to improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, increase farm resilience, and generate measurable climate outcomes through carbon sequestration.
• 50,000 hectares of climate-smart agroforestry and sustainable agricultural landscapes.
• 13.5 million tCO₂e Emissions Under Management.
• A 40-year voluntary programme built on the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
• Deployment of GIS, remote sensing, and digital field data collection systems aligned with international carbon market standards.
• Integration of indigenous and multipurpose tree species alongside improved nutrient management and sustainable farming practices.
With planning, baseline assessments, farmer onboarding, digital systems deployment, and operational readiness activities now complete, the programme now moves into full implementation.
Field teams will commence plantation activities, farmer engagement, scientific monitoring, and capacity-building initiatives under the approved implementation framework, laying the foundation for long-term environmental and socioeconomic benefits.

Building Climate Finance with Integrity
Every hectare under HIM Evergreen will be monitored through a Digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (DMRV) framework designed to ensure climate outcomes are measurable, transparent, and independently verifiable.
The programme has been designed to align with international carbon market expectations around transparency, permanence, governance, and community participation, creating a model for scalable, high-integrity climate finance. This is climate action engineered as a bankable and investment-grade asset class.
Ahead of the programme launch, a senior ProClime delegation led by Founder and CEO Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, together with Technical Director Samrat Sengupta and former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and member of ProClime’s Advisory Board, Erik Solheim, met with the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to discuss the state's climate priorities and the role HIM Evergreen can play in supporting them.
As part of its long-term partnership with Himachal Pradesh, ProClime has committed USD 8 million towards climate initiatives in the state, including USD 7 million for HIM Evergreen and USD 1 million towards the establishment of a biochar plant and research facility.
"We've always viewed climate not as a crisis alone, but as an opportunity that rewards measurable action. With HIM Evergreen, we're bridging the gap between ambition and accountability, transforming 50,000 hectares of Himachal into a transparent climate asset and a durable source of livelihood for the farming communities at its heart."
- Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, Founder & CEO, ProClime
"ProClime’s commitment to combining scientific rigour and practical implementation on the ground is the right approach to fight the climate crisis. High-integrity climate projects require strong partnerships, credible measurement, and long-term thinking. HIM Evergreen is an excellent example of how governments and private enterprise can work together to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while creating economic opportunities for local communities."
– Erik Solheim, Former Executive Director of UNEP and Advisory Board, ProClime
HIM Evergreen reflects the shared commitment of ProClime, the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, field teams, and participating farmers to building climate-resilient agriculture, restoring ecosystems, and creating sustainable rural livelihoods across Himachal Pradesh.
