ProClime Organizes the Second Round of the Plantation Drive Under Phase 1 Of the HIM Evergreen Project

ProClime’s second round of the agroforestry plantation drive as part of Phase 1 of the HIM Evergreen SALM and Agroforestry Project across Amb Tehsil, Una District, Himachal Pradesh has been successfully completed. The HIM Evergreen Project was launched by ProClime in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department in November 2025, where the plan got shaped from ideation to readiness in being implemented.

The drive was conducted from 10 to 14 August 2026. It was part of the first 15,000-hectare coverage in Phase 1. It was favored by good rainfall during this period, making the soil conditions moist and favorable for planting and establishment. The farmers actively participated in the drive and planted the seedlings across their agricultural bunds, leaving space for the areas that had crops under cultivation.

Highlights from the Plantation Drive:

• The week-long plantation drive covered more than 25 villages in the Una district, where beneficiary farmers received 50 multipurpose tree seedlings for one hectare.

• The seedlings were selected by taking farmers’ preferences, the soil conditions of their land, and the potential livelihood value the seedlings create.

• Seedlings of jackfruit, neem, amla, jamun, bael, baheda, harad, and monkey jack were planted.

Beneficial Outcomes Expected from the Drive:

This plantation drive was designed to bring benefits beyond carbon sequestration.

• Fruit-bearing species like jackfruit and amla can provide potential future income.

• Medicinal species like Neem will provide support in livelihood diversification and household needs.

• Planting these species in harmony with the agricultural crops on the same field will contribute to on-form biodiversity, which results in soil protection, microclimate regulation, strengthening the ecosystem, and long-term carbon storage.

This plantation drive marks another important step towards the HIM Evergreen vision of linking climate action with sustainable agricultural production and farmers' livelihoods. By working directly with farming communities and promoting multipurpose agroforestry systems, the project aims to develop productive, diversified, and climate-resilient agricultural landscapes while delivering long-term climate benefits.
